Synopsis: This study aims at explorations of rural tourism in West Bengal , India, which acts as an incentive to promote local economy, socio-cultural changes and life style of the people residing around the tourist locations .The purpose of this study is to explore the reasons for which the foreign and domestic tourists visit this location either for religious or for recreational purposes, which in turn has created tremendous impact on local economy, life style and socio-cultural changes among the rural people in and around this tourist destination. In a pilot survey, it has been observed that rural tourism at this location has also improved civic amenities like communication, sanitations, transport facilities and standard of living for the people in general.
Synopsis: This study aims at exploration of heritage tourism in West Bengal, which acts to promote local economy, socio-cultural changes and pattern of life style of the people residing in and around the tourist destination. The purpose of this study is to explore about heritage tourism for which the foreign and domestic tourists visit the heritage destinations for recreation and leisure purposes. This present study has been focused mainly on heritage tourism at Vishnupur in West Bengal, India and its impacts on socio economic life of the local people in and around Vishnupur who are engaged in tourism related activities. Considering the objectives of the study, two set of questionnaires were developed. This study also indicates that how to develop and upgrade the heritage tourism destinations by development of proper utilization of local tourism infrastructural amenities in the area as well as active participation by public private initiatives and utilization of local resources. In the policy implication point of view, present research study is relevant for balancing the demand and supply of tourism infrastructural requirement indicators which can offer the service excellence in the study area.
